| | | | | September 2010 Newsletter | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Participation Numbers at the High School Level Increase For the sixth straight year, high school boys wrestling participation numbers have increased while girls' participation hit an all-time high as The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) released the 2009-10 participation numbers. The number of boys wrestling in 2009-10 was 272,890 which ranked it as the sixth most popular boy's sport for participation. The total number of participants in 2010 is the highest number that wrestling has seen since 1980, when participation statistics were listed at 273,326 by the NFHS. This section of the website is an outstanding resource for any individual looking for facts and figures on wrestling, participation rates and templates for adding new programs. In the past decade, wrestling has seen growth at all levels. Boy's high school participation is up over 40,000 to its highest level since 1980. Girl's high school wrestling is at an all-time high. On the collegiate level we have seen 72 new programs added. Click here for the full release Click here to visit the Saving Wrestling Webpage 2009-10 NWCA Division I All-Academic True Freshman The National Wrestling Coaches Association has announced its annual Division I NWCA All-Academic True Freshman wrestlers for the 2009-10 wrestling season. These eight wrestlers boasted many accomplishments this season both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat. In order to be selected each individual must have completed two full semesters at their institution along with met a particular GPA and competition mark.
