Titans Win Pair of CBU Championships
Oct. 25, 2010

Senior Adin Duenas and freshman Chaste Harrell won championships Saturday to highlight the performances of Cal State Fullerton wrestlers at the third annual Cal Baptist Open.

Competing as the Titan Wrestling Club, Fullerton wrestlers also picked up second place finishes at 149 (Charles Chavez), at 157 (Ryan Zumwalt) and 174 (Mark Savalle); third-place finishes at 165 (Clayton Schuelke) and 197 (Kyle Bergstedt); and fourth-place efforts at 133 (Gabe Brown) and 141 (Henry Yorba).

Duenas, the defending Pac-10 champion at 141 pounds, roared through the 149-pound field. He scored technical falls over Nick Barton of Bakersfield College (15-0) and Brock Remington of Rio Hondo (16-1) before settling for a lopsided major decision (24-11) over Josh Chang of Embry Riddle. Chavez won his three bouts at 149 before forfeiting the title match to Duenas.

Harrell went 4-0 in the 184-pound bracket. He opened with a pin of Brian Meave of Rio Hondo in 2:20 and then reeled off three consecutive decisions -- 4-2 over Jesus Chavez (unattached), 10-3 over Stephan Hampton of Cal Poly and 7-4 over Jiro Chavez (unattached) in the title match.

The Titans next compete in the Embry Riddle Open in Prescott, Arizona, on Nov. 6.
