Minnesota at CSF wrestling

WRESTLING
No. 3-Ranked Minnesota Blanks Fullerton, 39-0
Dec. 11, 2010

Mike Thorn at 141 pounds and Scott Glasser at 174 scored pins Saturday night as No. 3-ranked Minnesota won all 10 matches to cruise to a 39-0 non-conference wrestling victory at Cal State Fullerton.

The Golden Gophers improved to 7-1 in dual meets, having beaten Cal State Bakersfield, 27-6, earlier in the day in Bakersfield.  Fullerton fell to 0-4.

Thorn remained undefeated this season, running his record to 16-0 by pinning Peter Hoang in 3:42.  Glasser pinned Dominic Borelli in 6:12.

The closest the Titans came to a win came at 133.  Marcus Orona was about 10 seconds away from overtime when he fell victim to a late takedown by Thane Antezak and lost, 5-3.  At 149, Fullerton’s Nick Jordan had an early lead but lost to Danny Zilverberg, 11-8.

Seven of the 10 Minnesota wrestlers are ranked in the national top 25.

Simultaneous to the men’s match in Titan Gym was an exhibition of women’s freestyle wrestling between Menlo College and Simon Fraser University.

Fullerton’s next competition is the Tournament of Champions in Reno on Dec. 19.  Minnesota is idle until Dec. 29 when it competes in the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, North Carolina.
